Hunting Ground

The title of the movie Hunting Ground, makes me shiver. The thought that sexual assault is now so common on college campuses is frightening for many parents and students. College campuses being called hunting grounds now seems to be so ironic.Parents are dropping their children off expecting them to receive great education and possibly a hoping for a better future for them. The Sexual assault epidemic is ultimately making it hard for many victims to receive the highly expensive education they are paying for and deserve. Colleges are ignoring this huge problem that is affecting students that may be victims. This ordeal really tells us how much institutions care more about their reputations than the mental health, safety, and comfort of their students. Hunting ground and Lady Gaga’s music helps shed a light on these important facts that shouldn’t be optional for people to acknowledge but required. It should be watched and discussed by parents to their children while growing up and in school communities.

This phenomenon recently played out in the case of the student at Columbia University Emma Sulkowicz after she protested the way her university handled campus sexual assault by carrying a mattress around on campus, which served as her senior arts thesis. Critics of Sulkowicz who doubt her telling of events, mentioned messages Sulkowicz sent to the man she accused of rape after she said the rape took place, but Sulkowicz said she reached out to him afterwards because after being close friends with her attacker. She is an avid advocate for sexual assault cases in college campuses.
