What moved me from the Eyes on the Prize video was the murder of Emmett Till. It is crazy to think of a world where a little boy can be murdered just for talking to a white woman. The poor kid didn't even know that what he was doing was so wrong. This shows the difference between the North and the South at the time. De jure segregation was prevalent in the South. Jim Crow laws made segregation legal, whereas in the North there was de facto segregation, which existed by practice. In Chicago Emmett Till could've gotten away with saying, "Bye baby," to a white woman. Not only was he killed, but his murderers weren't even found guilty. It is appalling at the lack of justice there was in the end. These men were murders but wouldn't be convicted because the boy they killed was black. As horrible as it was, this was a very important historical event. The whole country and even people around the world were anxious to know what the outcome of the trial would be. When they weren't found guilty people were outraged and it showed how things needed to change in America.
