The Time to Kill Response

  1. What Carl Lee does to his daughter's rapist was not in any way justice. I feel it was not justice because we have an established system that SHOULD apply justice to the prosecutor. The killing of the rapists although not justice, morally this could be considered justified revenge. If another man raped my daughter or even one of my sisters, my morals would not be settling for the rapist sitting in jail.
  2. Carl Lee commits this crime for revenge. As a father he killed those two men because he could not morally deal with those men taking another breath in this world.
  3. Carl Lee was found insane according to the courts. What his punishment should be is an assignment of counseling/mental support for an extended period of time. Not only to keep him from doing this again but to also insure he is growing to deal with his disability.
  4. As the way the movie begins given the time period and political stance in America, the scales for justice are in no way balanced. This is due to a time period of high discrimination and racism in America. It took Jake Birgance going against institutional racism to fight for what was right.
  5. The fact that Carl Lee’s daughter is black should have no significance in the trial of her rape. Unfortunately there are a lot of biased people in this world including within the jury and judges.
  6. At first due process was not really being represented in the trial. Once Jake Birgance started fighting for what was right and exposing people for actions in their past, the tables flipped in Carl Lee’s favor.
