Sexual assault is one of the most violent crimes in the world, unfortunately, it is also one of the most common. Rape has always been actuality for thousands of women and men but only recently have we started to do something about it. It is considered a “taboo” subject and if you are raped you aren’t supposed to say anything. It is believed that you especially should not say anything if you are a student at a college or university. 1 in 5 college women will be sexually assaulted this year. We need to bring attention to this chilling reality. In order to raise awareness about this topic, we need survivors to come forward, tell their stories, and put a face to this horrific crime. We also need to provide a safe space for survivors and provide them with the help that they so desperately need but aren’t being given. End Rape On Campus, or EROC, is an organization designed and built specifically for these purposes.
End Rape On Campus was founded by Annie Clark and Sofie Karasek. Both amazing women were featured in the documentary The Hunting Ground and are sexual assault survivors themselves. The group was founded by survivors, students, and professors in the summer of 2013. The organization works to end sexual assault by providing support for survivors and for their communities, preventing the assault from even happening through education, and policy reform at all levels. They are “fiscally” funded through NEO Philanthropy and also accept any donations. The organization has thankfully been supported in the news and seen as a serious and committed group of people fighting for an amazing cause.
